Introduction:
The Site

The Griffin Memorial Hospital Plan and Development Area is located at the east side of the urban area of Norman, Oklahoma. Generally, it lies between the East Main Street, N Carter Ave, 12th Ave, and East Robinson Street. The site is proposed to encompass approximately 150 acres of land, which includes approximately 33 acres of hospital property, approximately 80 acres of vacant land, approximately 15 acres of government property.
Subdivision and Planned Unit Development Planning Study Group initiated the exploration of potential possibilities for Griffin Memorial site. Professor and students visited the hospital site and in the evening we had a meeting with the Griffin Memorial Hospital administration staff. After the meeting, I knew that the revitalization will bring tremendous opportunities for City of Norman. We, as planners, are obligated to create varieties of development scenarios in order to generate much greater benefits for the communities and improve the quality of life for its vicinity. In particular, the goal of the Griffin Memorial Hospital revitalization is to improve the well being of its community through efforts that entail job creation, job retention, tax base enhancements and quality of life (LaGro, 2013).
